چکیده

First-principles calculations of electronic circular dichroism (ECD) are widely used to determine absolute configurations of chiral molecules. In addition, ECD is a sensitive probe for the three-dimensional molecular structure, making ECD calculations a useful tool to study conformational changes. In this review, we explain the origin of ECD and optical activity using response theory. While the quantummechanical underpinnings of ECD have been known for a long time, efficient electronic structure methods for ECD calculations on molecules with more than 10–20 atoms have become widely available only in the past decade. We review the most popular methods for ECD calculation, focusing on time-dependent density functional theory. Although single-point vertical ECD calculations yield useful accuracy for conformationally rigid systems, inclusion of finite-temperature effects is necessary for flexible molecules. The scope and limitations of modern ECD calculations are illustrated by applications to helicenes, fullerenes, iso-schizozygane alkaloids, paracyclophanes, β-lactams, and transition metal complexes. In vitro study of drug-protein interaction using electronic absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectroscopy

In the near future, design of a new generation of drugs targeting proteins will be required. Considering the complex bond between the drug and protein, the structure and stability of the target protein should be considered. So far, a series of in vitro investigations have been conducted with the aim of predicting drug-biological medium interactions. In these studies, use of spectroscopic method...

Magnetic Circular Dichroism of Paramagnetic Species

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy and variable-temperature variable-field (VTVH) MCD are powerful methods for studying the excited and ground states of paramagnetic systems. Notably, these methods provide detailed insight into the geometric and electronic structures of catalytically active centers in inorganic and biological systems. In this review, we present the theoretical backg...

The effects of YBa2Cu3O7Àd overlayers on the magnetic and electronic properties of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3

The effects of YBa2Cu3O72d ~YBCO! cap layers on the magnetic and electronic properties of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 ~LSMO! underlayers was determined by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and x-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques. The YBCO caps alter the LSMO in a way that effectively decreases the concentration of La at the LSMO/YBCO interface. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~00!62908-0#

Optical and magneto-optical studies on magnetic-phase transition of CeSb and CeBi

We have observed the magnetic-phase transitions of CeSb and CeBi by a magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy in the infrared region. The phase boundary is similar to that detected by neutron scattering. The optical spectra re#ect the electronic structures in the ordered states. The electronic structure and also the origin of the magnetic transition are discussed. ( 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. ...
